Douyin & Bilibili Tools — Chrome Extension
Last updated: May 23, 2026
Douyin & Bilibili Tools is a Chrome Extension that translates real-time subtitles for Douyin and Bilibili videos and lets you batch-download videos from Douyin. This policy explains what data the extension processes and how it is handled.
Short version: The extension does not run any server of ours. Your API keys and settings stay on your device. Audio and subtitle text are sent directly from your browser to the third-party services you configure (Soniox and Google Cloud Translation), and only while you actively use those features.
Subtitle appearance settings (font, font size, text color, background color, opacity, position), translation language, active mode, the subtitle history panel state, and similar UI preferences are stored locally via chrome.storage. We do not have access to these settings.
To enable the translation features you must provide your own Soniox API key and/or Google Cloud Translation API key. These keys are stored locally in your browser via chrome.storage and are sent only to the corresponding service (Soniox or Google) when the extension performs a request on your behalf. We never see, transmit, or store your API keys.
When you turn on the real-time subtitle feature, the extension uses the tabCapture permission to capture the audio of the current Douyin or Bilibili tab. Captured audio is streamed directly from your browser to Soniox for speech recognition and translation, then discarded. The audio is not recorded, saved, or sent anywhere else, and capture stops as soon as you turn the feature off or close the tab.
When you use the Bilibili subtitle mode, the extension reads the AI-generated Chinese subtitle track that Bilibili already provides for the video, then sends that text directly from your browser to Google Cloud Translation to obtain a translation. The text is not stored on our side.
When you use the downloader, the extension reads publicly visible video lists and metadata (titles, video IDs, available resolutions) from the Douyin pages you are browsing in order to build the download list. This data is processed locally on your device. Video files are downloaded directly from Douyin to your computer (or your IDM client). We do not upload, mirror, or store the videos on any server.
While the subtitle feature is active, recent subtitle lines may be kept in a local history panel for your reference. This history lives only inside the current session in your browser and is not transmitted anywhere.
All settings and API keys are stored locally in your browser via chrome.storage. We do not operate any server-side storage. The extension itself does not communicate with any server controlled by us.
The extension can send data to the following services only when you enable the corresponding feature and provide your own API key:
You are responsible for the API keys you create and for the costs and terms of those services.
tabCapture — capture audio from the current Douyin/Bilibili tab while real-time subtitles are onstorage — save your settings and API keys locallydownloads — save downloaded Douyin videos to your computerscripting / content scripts on douyin.com and bilibili.com — render the subtitle overlay and downloader UI on the pages you are watchingsoniox.com and googleapis.com — send your requests to the translation services you configureWe do not retain any user data. Subtitles displayed on the video are temporary — closing or reloading the tab removes them. Settings and API keys persist locally until you remove them or uninstall the extension.
Uninstalling the extension removes all locally stored data (settings, API keys, and history). You can also clear individual items from the extension's options page at any time.
The extension injects content scripts only into Douyin (*.douyin.com) and Bilibili (*.bilibili.com) pages. These scripts render the subtitle overlay, the history panel, and the downloader UI, and they read the data described above strictly to make those features work. They do not read, collect, or transmit unrelated page content.
The extension is not directed to children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.
The use of information received from Google APIs will adhere to the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.
We may update this policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated "Last updated" date.
